Biography
Project Manager: Design and Build the Linear Motor Reciprocating Compressor (LMRC) SwRI worked with DOE (2014-2020) to advance reciprocating compressor technology. Eugene “Buddy” Broerman, a SwRI expert who holds several patents in reciprocating compressor technology, lead the nearly $2.3 million effort to develop a Linear Motor Reciprocating Compressor (LMRC). The development of this work has led to improvements in the following areas which are applicable to many types of reciprocating compressors: a. Valves — improved flow versus wear and pressure losses b. Seals — reduce emissions and leakage c. Materials and coatings — corrosion protection d. Controls design — improved compression efficiencies e. Innovative System design — oil free operation and modular installation From 2021-2022 Mr. Broerman is leading the LMRC continued development of the magnet coatings, compressor valves, novel dynamic seal testing, and motion profile via an internal research and development (IR&D) project. Specialty: Compressor and Pump Piping System Pulsation and Vibration Control -- Multiple pulsation analyses (primarily reciprocating compressor piping) -- Research and Development in the areas of piping pulsations (developed prototypes and commercial products via DOE and GMRC research projects), vortex-shedding (Strouhal) prediction, and LMRC (as noted above) -- Developed novel designs and solutions for acoustic problems in pump piping systems -- Mechanical FEA experience -- Field pulsation/vibration evaluation experience -- Thermal analysis experience
